My CYO Project on Cobra Kai is almost complete. In my most recent class, I added the main images and each of their paragraph-long descriptions to basically explain what my project is about. I also linked my timeline and my journey page to the images that they’re connected to. For example, on the home page, I put an image of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso bowing to each other, which was the culmination of their constant flipping between friends and foes. Under “Page Link,” I linked my entire timeline because that’s where the image and its entire context came from. I did the same thing with the image of Miguel holding his trophy, only I linked the “Journey” page under “Page Link.” Today’s class was about cleaning up the presentation of our projects, and I definitely made progress on that.

  • Reflection on Sites and Pages

Currently, in my CYO project on Cobra Kai, I put each of the events in chronological order, as well as pictures for each of the events that made my timeline look proper and presentable. On top of that, I changed some of the descriptions. I changed “date” to “date (context of the show),” “Relation” to “Connection,” and “Events” to “Season & Episode.” I also put my data into two separate folders/sections. One was titled “Friends & Foes” which was the timeline of the relationship between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. The other was titled “Journeys” which highlighted the similarities of the journeys of myself and Miguel Diaz. One of my favorite parts about my data is the presentation of the timeline, and a lot of that has to do with the pictures that I added. In order to understand this timeline, and the whole project in general, readers will have to understand the context, which is explained in the descriptions. One thing that’s important that I made sure is that the descriptions aren’t too in-depth to where it’s too much information that turns readers away, but enough for them to understand what’s going on. In the events of the timeline, considering I had a lot of sections, the descriptions I wrote weren’t too in detail. However, my journey sections were because all that were in the journey sections were the pictures, the title and the description. I made a good number of edits to my project that made it more structured and more presentable.

So far, I’ve really been enjoying my CYO Project on Cobra Kai. One of the most recent updates to the project really intrigued me because we finally got to make edits to our website. Considering that I’m covering the rocky relationship between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, I’m doing a timeline presentation. With that being said, I am including titles, alternative titles, descriptions, references, sources, images, and others to each of the events that I am covering. This adds a lot of contexts to my project and helps readers understand the in-depth timeline of events that led to the division, then alliance, then division, then alliance once again between Lawrence and LaRusso, as well as how the journey of Miguel Diaz, one of the main protagonists in the show, parallels to my personal journey.

  • Reflection on Cleaning Data

As far as cleaning my data goes, I’m going to put the information into a slide presentation because it has loads of information, images for context, and links, which is perfect for google slides. On top of that, I’m going to mention which links are the source for multiple sections of the project, in case anyone is confused on where the source for each reference is. On top of that, I wrote all paragraphs, and I think I should shorten at least some of them to bullet points in order to make the project more presentable and more readable. What’s been enjoyable about the cleaning process was what was enjoyable about the start, which was writing about a topic that I am passionate about. What’s been difficult about it is figuring out which paragraphs I should keep, which paragraphs I should shift into bullet points, and which information from the paragraphs that I should take out. We all know that sometimes, less is more, however, it’s sometimes difficult to figure out what that “less” should be. It feels good to clean data because it lets you know that your previous work is good already, but there’s always room for improvement. Data cleaning allows your work to go from good to great, which is great for a learning experience. Some mistakes that I noticed from my data was that there was a thing or two that I didn’t label as well as that the paragraphs make the work seem unappealing. General trends that I’ve been noticing in data cleaning is that you always notice mistakes that you made that really baffle you. Mistakes that you can’t believe you made, like silly grammar errors or missing one of the small requirements. My data can be better visualized by, as I alluded to earlier, transitioning my paragraphs into bulleted lists in order to make my work cleaner and more presentable.

As of right now, I am working on a “Create Your Own” project. My project is about the Cobra Kai TV series, a sequel from the Karate Kid movies. Specifically, my project is about how the journey of the main teenager, Miguel Diaz, is similar to my journey when I was in elementary school. My project is also about how rocky the relationship is between the two main characters in the first Karate Kid movie and the Cobra Kai series, Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. I have a lot of important information that highlights not only the timeline of these events, but also the life lessons that they teach, the stories that they tell, the character development that they feature, and the way they relate to their audience.

  • Update on CYO Project

The data that I am gathering for this project is data about Cobra Kai. Most of the analysis that I will be doing is comparisons. Part of the reason why I chose this series is because it personally resonated with me, which is why I decided to compare one of the main protagonists’ journeys to mine. That protagonist, Miguel, went from a skinny, shy kid to a Karate champion in a short time. I relate to this, because I also went from skinny, shy kid to a Karate champion in a short time. While there were certainly differences in our journeys, the comparisons are clear, which is partly why I enjoyed this series so much. Some other data that I’ve gathered is the handful of cast members that practiced Karate in real life, thus strengthening their roles on the show. On top of that, I noticed that in one of the example projects, a student did her project on the Twilight series, and covered the relationship between Bella and Edward. While this relationship isn’t about romance by any means, the rocky friend and foe relationship between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso is a very rocky and interesting dynamic, and is not only a fun relationship to cover, but one that can relate to many people who have issues with their friends. So far, I have enjoyed this so far because I’m able to do this project on a series that I absolutely love and relate to and it’s been fairly easy to gather data on the similarities between the actors and characters, and the timeline of certain relationships. However, some of the difficulties include figuring out what websites to use and what exactly I should narrow my project down to, because there is a lot of trends and comparisons that I can cover. Some trends that I have noticed while gathering this data is that even though this show is an 80’s throwback and is cheesier than most shows, it has the strengths and necessities for a successful Television series. Those traits being character development, investment in storylines, relation to character and actor, and emotional connection to the show and its viewing audience. I have gathered a decent amount of data, but I plan on gathering a lot more next class. I hope to gather all of my data and get at least a good portion of my project completed by the end of next class. Anything that I don’t finish, I will complete outside of class, and anything that I am confused with I will go to office hours for.

  • Ideas of Project

The topic that I want to cover is Cobra Kai. The reason why is because not only is it one of my favorite television shows of all time, but it personally resonated with me because it’s a Karate-themed show and I did Karate throughout my entire childhood. I already know like most of what there is to know about this topic because I’ve seen every episode multiple times, I’ve seen all three of the prequel movies, and I’ve seen many interviews from the cast members about the show, both through YouTube and through online articles. However, some parts that I would like to learn about this topic is how much do the actors themselves resonate with me compared to the characters, or maybe more information about the behind the scenes works of the show. Information such as what scripts were leaked, what scripts never saw the light of day, or major scenes that were slightly adjusted. I think others would be interested in how this show relates to them or how this show is similar to either their topic in this project or their favorite forms of entertainment. Some of the resources that I can use for this project are Wikipedia, WordClouds, Voyant, and others.

  • Finishing Wikipedia Article and Wikipedia Project

As far as the status of my Wikipedia project, I admit that I have some work to do. However, I know exactly what I need to put, I know that my sources are credible and true, and I am passionate about the article that I’m editing, so this is a fun, cool experience for me. So far, I have some information and extended details added to the three sections that are on the page that I’m editing. The additional parts that I need to include are the sources to every piece of additional information that I am including, which will be somewhat challenging, but doable. I am honestly feeling pretty good about my article because even though I’m not adding a ton of information, considering that the article is pretty niche and small, the amount of information that I’m adding will be a pretty big difference, which is why I am confident about it. Throughout this project, I have learned that Wikipedia is surprisingly super strict about where information comes from and credible sources, and it’s somewhat ironic because Wikipedia was always the no-go source throughout grade school and it’s been commonly known as a site that pretty much anyone can edit on. Not only that, but I also found out that you can go to a site, and click on the page from a different time, which is cool because you can see how different the sites look from the present day in 2026 to let’s say the early years of Wikipedia that were 2001-2003. I also learned some cool “number” facts such as that one editor has made over 47,000 edits to correct “Comprised of,” Wikipedia is used by 1.5 billion devices worldwide every month, and that there are over 280,000 editors who contribute to Wikipedia on a monthly basis as well. Wikipedia is one of the most interesting, recognizable sites of all time, and with the current project that I’m doing, I will have fascinating knowledge that I can use for the rest of my life.

Over the past week or so, I have made an outline for my Wikipedia project. Since I am a big fan of professional wrestling, I figured that I might as well edit a wrestling-related Wikipedia page. Now, I already have a lot of experience as far as reading numerous different wrestling-related Wikipedia pages, however, I had to narrow my thoughts down to specific wrestlers or specific wrestling topics that I have a near concerning, astronomical amount of knowledge on, or a page that doesn’t have a lot of information on it. And then it hit me. There is a tag team currently in All Elite Wrestling named “The Outrunners,” who I am very fond of. Because of the fact that they’re newer to the promotion and on the lower side of the card, there isn’t too much information on them. Despite that, they’ve always been very charismatic and popular, as evident with them being top merchandise sellers for months. Because their page has little on it, I decided that I wanted to give them more attention by adding more pictures, how they’re journey started, and more of their noteworthy matches and moments.

As far as what we’re currently doing in class, the Wikipedia project is intriguing to say the least. I think that it’s really cool that we’re not only utilizing a source like Wikipedia, a site that basically the Voldemort of elementary school, but we’re going to be able to edit a page of our choice. One of the most intriguing parts of this project is not only the uniqueness of it, but the freedom as well. On top of that, throughout this project, we’re going to learn so much about not only Wikipedia, but the page that we’re editing as well. For example, I didn’t even know that you could go back to the time of previous edits on certain pages. It’s really fascinating to see what the page looked like then vs what it looks like now. This project is and will continue to be very interesting because of its uniqueness and flexibility.
